Donatella Doesn’t Need Your Charity

The Oscars aired on Sunday night…..It is now Tuesday and the NYC Daily News is STILL talking about red carpet fashion does and don’ts……..ON THE FRONT PAGE!

I realize that the Daily News is just trying to sell their newspaper……and this is what sells……but, doesn’t anyone realize that there may be more important things to talk about in the world?

Does it not seem logical that by focusing all of our attention, money and intellectual devotion to fashion, we are allowing everything else around us to crumble to pieces…….because we don’t care enough about it to even think about it?

I was watching the red carpet just for the humor of watching grown people discuss whether or not this ruffle or that neckline was worthy of admiration.

I also enjoyed watching the celebrities stop and turn from side to side to make sure the photographer get their best angle in the 50,000 pictures that were being taken of them.

My favorite part was watching the very well practiced facial expressions produced by each of the celebrities, which they have officially deemed to be the most flattering in pictures.

I couldn’t help being reminded of the movie Zoolander and Ben Stiller’s version of the “Magnum”………

After about 15 minutes of getting my kicks, I had to turn it off…….because I couldn’t help thinking that this gross display of artificiality is just plain ridiculous.

And our nation’s obsession with it, is even more ridiculous.

Why do we waste our brain cells on what Michelle Williams was wearing on Sunday night?   Has anyone ever heard the expression …..”if you don’t use it, you lose it”..?

And……the fact that we all humor it by talking about it every once in a while isn’t really the crime……

The crime is that multiple billions of dollars (22 to be exact in the US alone) is invested into the value of fashion every year!……

……and fashion has no value!!!!

Everyone who is “fashionable” knows that you can’t wear a dress twice…..what kind of value is that?

Meanwhile, …….people are dying all over the world from poverty that, according to Vision of Earth.org, would only cost $175,000,000,000 to eliminate completely.

In other words, if America were to become fashion free for only eight years……we could end world hunger!!!

That’s right ladies and gentlemen…..if you can just resist feeding into Hollywood brainwash and NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO STUFF THAT DOES NO ONE ANY GOOD (except for the designers)……you can contribute to the end of world hunger!!!!

Sounds like a great solution to me…

Don’t give your money to anyone……..and instead……STOP GIVING YOUR MONEY  to the manufacturers of bullshit!

Do you really need that $1500 handbag more than this kid needs rice?

I know that couture dress is the bomb, but does that one awesome night out just to show it off justify this?

OK….so world hunger isn’t your problem…..

But…… lining the pockets of Donatella Versace is?

What You Don’t Know Won’t Hurt You

Everyone has heard the saying “what you don’t know won’t hurt you“……..

But….is this really true?

I know someone who makes a lot of money on the premise of this phase.  He provides a service to people that call him because they need someone to make their living environment a healthier place to live in.

This person does absolutely nothing right in front of their eyes, but convinces them that he has just saved their lives and the lives of their babies and walks out with a check for thousands of dollars.

When I ask him how he feels about steeling money from people daily, his answer is that the customers are happy with his services and can sleep better at night and therefore he deserves the money that they are willingly paying him.

What they don’t know won’t hurt them.

In this case, it even helps them.

Yes, there are cases that lying becomes a critical problem for the person lied to and the liar, but the consequences end up being an appropriate punishment which fits the crime……I am not talking about these cases.  These cases take care of themselves.

My question is how bad is lying, when the lie doesn’t hurt anyone and no one is the wiser to it?

In my opinion, very, very, very bad.

And….not because it is “bad” thing to do.  Sometimes lying has no bad intentions behind it.

I believe that untruths are bad because they are not real.

By lying, you are contributing untruth to the world.

Untruths are fictional.

Fiction is fantasy.

Believing in fantasy is the same as being “crazy”.

Let me put this in another way……

Does it Really Matter What the FDA Says at This Point?

My brother sent me an interesting article about a drug called Qnexa that is about to come on the market.   The company that makes it, Vivus Inc, claims that Qnexa, which combines the appetite suppressant phentermine and anti-seizure drug topiramate, helped patients lose at least 10 percent of their weight after a year of treatment.

You can read the rest of the article here: U.S. Advisers Back Experimental Obesity Pill

So here is what I have to say about this…..

If you read the article, it is basically discussing the fact that this drug has already been rejected by the FDA two years ago, but a panel of outside experts called the “US health advisors” (whoever these people are and represent) recommend approving the drug despite the many potential side effects such as heart attacks and birth defects, because there are just too many obese people and something needs to be done about it.

So, if the FDA does what it is usually does and follows the recommendations of this panel – the “US Health Advisors” (whoever these people are and represent)…this drug will be available sometime in April.

Who cares what the FDA approves and what they don’t approve anymore?  They have approved drugs that have killed many people and will continue to approve many, many more dangerous drugs…..why not approve a drug like this one?

What difference does it make?

Slap a label on the bottle listing all the possible side effects (like death) and leave it up to those who decide that it is worth the risk.

At some point, we, Americans, have to take responsibility for ourselves and our own lives and forget about what the FDA “approves” of and what they don’t “approve” of.

Easy Money – Chapter II

Every once in a while, I am going to post a chapter from a publication that the Breslov community in Brooklyn puts out which is based on the teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov.  I will add my two cents on the bottom of the post and those of you who have a few more cents to add….please feel free.

Even though Rabbi Nachman was a Hasid, his teachings are applicable and potentially valuable to all of humanity

Visit my post “The Unique Teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov” for a little introduction to who Rabbi Nachman is and why he is special.

Easy Money – Chapter II

Despite the prevailing notion that there is no place for virtue in the competitive world of business, still making a good living means making an honest living!  For success of any lasting value has to be legitimately gained, and not acquired at the cost of your beliefs and ideals.

Trusting Your Spouse

There were a lot of trust issues between me and my ex-husband.  I learned early on in our relationship that he did not have the same respect for monogamy that I did…..and he didn’t hesitate to remind me daily that he liked his women with small breasts and less than 120 pounds  – which I wasn’t.

This all led to the inevitable – I cheated on him to make myself feel better and we eventually got divorced….but the remnants of distrust for all men world wide lingered, yet I got married to my second husband anyway.

I put him through the ringer.  I did not trust anything.  I didn’t trust his breathing.  If he breathed a little too loudly during a movie scene, I would think that he is fantasizing about the girl in the scene.

I was ridiculous….but for some reason he stayed with me.

Nowadays, I completely trust him.  He has earned it.

But….what about those guys that have not necessarily earned trust – but need to be trusted for the sake of the relationship.  Those guys that don’t cheat or even want to cheat, but they act like guys so it is hard to tell.

I am going to be honest here and say that despite the fact that I have absolutely no reason at all to suspect my husband of any funny business, due to my deep rooted insecurities, I occasionally can’t help the thought that creeps through every once in a while whispering in my ear that I better be smarter and watch my back.

Not only do I have this thought completely on my own….it doesn’t help that I have had friends in the past suggest the same thing.

Even some of you who are reading this are probably thinking that I shouldn’t be so naive and make sure to  take heed of the “signs” mentioned above.

You see how far my paranoia can go?

Multitasking…a Woman’s Road to Hell

Why do we do it?

Why do we feel the need to be perfect?

Perfect body, perfect hair, perfect make up, perfect career, perfect clothes, perfect home, perfect children, perfect life……..

And…since there aren’t enough hours in one day to do everything perfectly – we multitask.

We talk business during our yoga class. .  We keep up with  the latest fashion trends at work…..We take care of errands on our lunch break…..We clean the house and cook dinner while trying to pay attention to our children…..And we sleep while our husbands are waiting for us to tell them it is a good night to be intimate.

Why do we do this?  Who are we doing everything for?

If you are single and you have a great career that affords you the luxury of pampering yourself – great!!…..But…..how do you expect to add a husband and children into the mix…..unless you give part of that lifestyle up?

Some of you say its no problem….I can do it all.  I am woman.  Hear me roar.

But I want you to be honest with yourself…..we all have to do it at some point in our life…..can anyone really do it ALL – and not fail at something?

The Napoleon Complex

My husband has a very short male boss.  When we describe his behavior to people, we use the term “Napoleon Complex” to clearly identify what kind of guy this is.

In my husband’s bosses case, he happens to be a relatively wealthy guy who mistreats his employees and brags about his money a lot.  Since he is a particularly short man (5’5), we joke that he must have “The Napoleon Complex”.

But what exactly is “The Napolean Complex” and is this a real psychological disorder?

According to Wikipedia ( Napoleon Complex), Napoleon was average height for his time period and that this proclaimed “complex” seems to be a myth due to various studies done that seem to disprove that short men are more aggressive than taller men.  Wikipedia mentions only one  professor, Professor Abraham Buunk of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands that according to his study done at the University, men who were 1.63 m (5 ft 4 in) were 50 % more likely to show signs of jealousy than men who were 1.98 m (6 ft 6 in).  Other various sociological experiments have shown that there are several advantages to being tall in attracting a mate, and the small man syndrome is believed to be an evolutionary adaptation.
