Donatella Doesn’t Need Your Charity

The Oscars aired on Sunday night…..It is now Tuesday and the NYC Daily News is STILL talking about red carpet fashion does and don’ts……..ON THE FRONT PAGE!

I realize that the Daily News is just trying to sell their newspaper……and this is what sells……but, doesn’t anyone realize that there may be more important things to talk about in the world?

Does it not seem logical that by focusing all of our attention, money and intellectual devotion to fashion, we are allowing everything else around us to crumble to pieces…….because we don’t care enough about it to even think about it?

I was watching the red carpet just for the humor of watching grown people discuss whether or not this ruffle or that neckline was worthy of admiration.

I also enjoyed watching the celebrities stop and turn from side to side to make sure the photographer get their best angle in the 50,000 pictures that were being taken of them.

My favorite part was watching the very well practiced facial expressions produced by each of the celebrities, which they have officially deemed to be the most flattering in pictures.

I couldn’t help being reminded of the movie Zoolander and Ben Stiller’s version of the “Magnum”………

After about 15 minutes of getting my kicks, I had to turn it off…….because I couldn’t help thinking that this gross display of artificiality is just plain ridiculous.

And our nation’s obsession with it, is even more ridiculous.

Why do we waste our brain cells on what Michelle Williams was wearing on Sunday night?   Has anyone ever heard the expression …..”if you don’t use it, you lose it”..?

And……the fact that we all humor it by talking about it every once in a while isn’t really the crime……

The crime is that multiple billions of dollars (22 to be exact in the US alone) is invested into the value of fashion every year!……

……and fashion has no value!!!!

Everyone who is “fashionable” knows that you can’t wear a dress twice…..what kind of value is that?

Meanwhile, …….people are dying all over the world from poverty that, according to Vision of Earth.org, would only cost $175,000,000,000 to eliminate completely.

In other words, if America were to become fashion free for only eight years……we could end world hunger!!!

That’s right ladies and gentlemen…..if you can just resist feeding into Hollywood brainwash and NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO STUFF THAT DOES NO ONE ANY GOOD (except for the designers)……you can contribute to the end of world hunger!!!!

Sounds like a great solution to me…

Don’t give your money to anyone……..and instead……STOP GIVING YOUR MONEY  to the manufacturers of bullshit!

Do you really need that $1500 handbag more than this kid needs rice?

I know that couture dress is the bomb, but does that one awesome night out just to show it off justify this?

OK….so world hunger isn’t your problem…..

But…… lining the pockets of Donatella Versace is?

Celebrity Priests and Rabbis…..The Kim Kardashian’s of Religion

I’ve got to gripe a little here.

If you are reading my blog for the first time….I was at one time in my life an Orthodox Jew.

I respected my faith very much and I had fear that if I didn’t follow the ritualistic protocol of Judaism, I believed that I was going to be “punished” by the One Above.

I also believed that if I am going to be punished for not being a “good” Jew, then other people that are not “good” Jews will also be punished.

I have gotten older and a little more mature and I realize now that I may have been wrong about this childish view of G-d.

As an adult, I realize that we cannot tell another person what G-d wants from them, because we are not G-d and to dare insist that we are sure that another person is going to “Hell” for their deeds…..is quite presumptuous.

But……since I have come to this realization……I have a hard time with Rabbis and Priests that claim to know what G-d wants from all of us.

And, apparently they know that G-d wants the same thing from everybody…… G-d wants all of us to fear Him.

Let me tell you why I think this is blasphemous.

Note: Since I can only discuss Judaism, because I am Jewish, I have no choice but to limit my gripes to the Rabbis that do this and what kind of negative impact they have on the Jewish community as a whole.  I cannot discuss other religions, however, that does not mean that this does not occur within other religions.  I want to clearly state that I am not under the impression that Judaism is the one and only religion guilty of what I am about to rant about.

What You Don’t Know Won’t Hurt You

Everyone has heard the saying “what you don’t know won’t hurt you“……..

But….is this really true?

I know someone who makes a lot of money on the premise of this phase.  He provides a service to people that call him because they need someone to make their living environment a healthier place to live in.

This person does absolutely nothing right in front of their eyes, but convinces them that he has just saved their lives and the lives of their babies and walks out with a check for thousands of dollars.

When I ask him how he feels about steeling money from people daily, his answer is that the customers are happy with his services and can sleep better at night and therefore he deserves the money that they are willingly paying him.

What they don’t know won’t hurt them.

In this case, it even helps them.

Yes, there are cases that lying becomes a critical problem for the person lied to and the liar, but the consequences end up being an appropriate punishment which fits the crime……I am not talking about these cases.  These cases take care of themselves.

My question is how bad is lying, when the lie doesn’t hurt anyone and no one is the wiser to it?

In my opinion, very, very, very bad.

And….not because it is “bad” thing to do.  Sometimes lying has no bad intentions behind it.

I believe that untruths are bad because they are not real.

By lying, you are contributing untruth to the world.

Untruths are fictional.

Fiction is fantasy.

Believing in fantasy is the same as being “crazy”.

Let me put this in another way……

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness, but Judging Others is Not

There is nothing better than being clean.  Keeping your house clean and your body clean does have a way of keeping your mind clean….and, in my opinion, the cleaner your mind is – the more connected to G-d (or The Life Force of the Universe) you can be.

But…..when someone says to another person “cleanliness is next to Godliness” and proceeds to dictate how clean the person should be in order to fulfill the meaning of this saying, I doubt that judging another person’s cleanliness is what this phrase is trying to teach us.  Furthermore, to use God as a reason to judge others (especially in trivial matters), probably isn’t the best idea since none of us have any idea what God’s intention is for another person besides ourselves – and to presume that we do, I think, is a drop egotistical.

And I doubt that God intends for us to be egotistical.  Just saying.

Not only that, but the saying “cleanliness is next to Godliness” isn’t even a real “Biblical” saying and “don’t judge another until you are in his shoes” has a lot of Biblical sources…..take a look….

Source for “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”

It does not come from the bible. In fact, until the time of the renaisance, bathing was oft seen as sinful, regarding the body as more important than the spirit. Bathing was also strongly associated with the “decadent” Romans. It’s origins seems to be in the writings of Francis Bacon. In his ‘Advancement of Learning’ (1605) he wrote: ‘Cleanness of body was ever deemed to proceed from a due reverence to God.’ Near two centuries later John Wesley in one of his sermons (1791) indicated that the proverb was already well known in the form we use today. Wrote Wesley: ‘Slovenliness is no part of religion.’Cleanliness is indeed next to Godliness.'” From “Morris Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins” by William and Mary Morris (HarperCollins, New York, 1977, 1988). There are a couple more details in “Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings” (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996): “.According to the fourteenth edition of ‘Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable,’ it is an old Hebrew proverb used in the late 2nd century by Rabbi Phinehas ben-Yair. First attested in the United States in the ‘Monthly Anthology and Boston Review’ (1806). The proverb is found in varying forms.” (Yahoo Answers)

I Don’t Believe in “Sins”, But Wasting Food is a Sin

I try very hard not to judge others…..but when it comes to waste, I can’t help having somewhat of a negative opinion about those that are so flagrantly wasteful.

When I see Reality Shows like the one I saw recently…..I think it was called Chef Roble & Co. (Bravo)…I have to wonder what people are thinking….

Here’s a clip found from a website called : Doggie Wedding @ Obsessive Chihuahua Disorder

This is what was on the doggie’s menu at their wedding:

  • Appetizer:  Hudson Valley Duck Meatballs (Duck Breast, Carrots)
  • Entree:  Prime Steak Flank and Eggs (Grass Fed Beef, Watercress)
  • Dessert:  Peanute Butter Wedding Cake and Ice Cream

Total cost for 30 people and 15 dogs: $25,000

This is just the epitome of waste.  Whenever I watch my favorite, the Housewives, and others like the Kardashians, I can’t help but wonder what pleasure these people get from spending millions and millions of dollars on things that last for only one night (Kim Kardashian’s mega ridiculous wedding for example).

And…..when they travel to different parts of the world….how do they feel when they see unbelievable poverty…poverty that could be significantly helped for the price of ONE of their cars.

To Live a Purpose Driven Life – Part II

Cont from “To Live a Purpose Driven Life – Part !

………..So I wrote a book.

When I wrote the book, I did not have making money in mind.  In fact, I left it on a free website for about a year and forgot about it.  I figured to myself that there is no way I can convince anyone that they don’t have to listen to what other people tell them, I can only hope to provide an inspiring resource to others and if they choose to read it, then great….other than that, I can do nothing else.

One day I woke up and my desire to share my knowledge with others was overwhelming.  This desire was just as strong as my desire for to cheat on my husband when my husband was not fulfilling my need for love and acceptance.

I became “depressed” the same way as I became “depressed” when I felt unloved by my husband.  I needed to fulfill my desire and I couldn’t understand why I was not able to.  How was I going to get my words out?

I started by completing my E-book formatting so that it could be submitted for “premium distribution”, which means that it would be distributed to Barnes & Nobles, Sony, Apple, Amazon and some other outlets.  I also decided to charge a small fee, because I felt that I needed to consider it worth something and by charging money for my creation, I was putting value on it.

To Live a Purpose Driven Life – Part I

How can we lead a purpose driven life if we don’t even know what are our purpose here is?

I, of course, cannot tell you what your purpose is.  Each of us have our own unique purpose.   But what I can do is express how it feels when you know that you have figured out what your purpose is and what it takes to fulfill it.

I did not know my purpose – or even think I had a unique purpose – until the age of 35.  At this point in my life, I ran into a wall and was unable to figure out why so many things seemed to be stacked against me – even though I really felt like I was doing everything the “right” way.

I was very responsible to my job and family and I was the kind of person that tried to be “good” all the time.  I was always helping others out and I had a strong fear of G-d.  I was afraid to do things “wrong” because I might get punished by G-d.

But……is there a person on this earth that doesn’t do something  that is “wrong”?

I ended up doing something very, very wrong……

I cheated on my first husband.
