Donatella Doesn’t Need Your Charity

28 Feb

The Oscars aired on Sunday night…..It is now Tuesday and the NYC Daily News is STILL talking about red carpet fashion does and don’ts……..ON THE FRONT PAGE!

I realize that the Daily News is just trying to sell their newspaper……and this is what sells……but, doesn’t anyone realize that there may be more important things to talk about in the world?

Does it not seem logical that by focusing all of our attention, money and intellectual devotion to fashion, we are allowing everything else around us to crumble to pieces…….because we don’t care enough about it to even think about it?

I was watching the red carpet just for the humor of watching grown people discuss whether or not this ruffle or that neckline was worthy of admiration.

I also enjoyed watching the celebrities stop and turn from side to side to make sure the photographer get their best angle in the 50,000 pictures that were being taken of them.

My favorite part was watching the very well practiced facial expressions produced by each of the celebrities, which they have officially deemed to be the most flattering in pictures.

I couldn’t help being reminded of the movie Zoolander and Ben Stiller’s version of the “Magnum”………

After about 15 minutes of getting my kicks, I had to turn it off…….because I couldn’t help thinking that this gross display of artificiality is just plain ridiculous.

And our nation’s obsession with it, is even more ridiculous.

Why do we waste our brain cells on what Michelle Williams was wearing on Sunday night?   Has anyone ever heard the expression …..”if you don’t use it, you lose it”..?

And……the fact that we all humor it by talking about it every once in a while isn’t really the crime……

The crime is that multiple billions of dollars (22 to be exact in the US alone) is invested into the value of fashion every year!……

……and fashion has no value!!!!

Everyone who is “fashionable” knows that you can’t wear a dress twice…..what kind of value is that?

Meanwhile, …….people are dying all over the world from poverty that, according to Vision of Earth.org, would only cost $175,000,000,000 to eliminate completely.

In other words, if America were to become fashion free for only eight years……we could end world hunger!!!

That’s right ladies and gentlemen…..if you can just resist feeding into Hollywood brainwash and NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO STUFF THAT DOES NO ONE ANY GOOD (except for the designers)……you can contribute to the end of world hunger!!!!

Sounds like a great solution to me…

Don’t give your money to anyone……..and instead……STOP GIVING YOUR MONEY  to the manufacturers of bullshit!

Do you really need that $1500 handbag more than this kid needs rice?

I know that couture dress is the bomb, but does that one awesome night out just to show it off justify this?

OK….so world hunger isn’t your problem…..

But…… lining the pockets of Donatella Versace is?

Very powerful and touchy topic you have here and I soo agree with you. It looks like we are forgetting the escential things, what is really important in order to have a life as it should be.

I have no intention to offend anyone….but, yes it is a touchy subject and I can’t help but be bothered by the emphasis and the money spent on non-essential things just to create an illusion of being “better” in some form.

I Really don’t care about what happens with the Oscars but what you touched on here is something that is of utmost importance:

“but, doesn’t anyone realize that there may be more important things to talk about in the world?”

Of course not because we are conditioned to pay attention to the distractions placed in front of us. History repeats itself all over again. Think about Rome. What did the ruling class do while the empire fell? Gave the people of the empire Bread and Circuses to amuse then and distract them from all of the problems they were surrounded by.

Today we have more and more people becoming homeless, nearly 1/4 of our children living in poverty, rampant unemployment and instead of thinking about these things we allow ourselves to be distracted by the annual Hollywood Circus.

Hollywood is exactly what you have said…a distraction….and we need to collectively wake up and realize that what we think is important going to become very unimportant soon…..as you say – poverty is a disease that is spreading and I truly believe that soon, if we don’t take our heads out of the ground….we will be sorry to find out that no one is immune to the disease of poverty.
The Roman Empire is a great comparison to what is happening in America right now……to deny this would be naive.

Reblogged this on pplcheryl63 and commented:
It’s amazing how easily we get distracted from what is important. While amusement is necessary when it eclipses everything else we need to stop and focus. Really J-lo’s neckine is front page news?? I can think of a lot of things more important than that to be on the front page.

Meanwhile, …….people are dying all over the world from poverty that, according to Vision of Earth.org, would only cost $175,000,000,000 to eliminate completely.

How much money do you think has already been given to reduce world hunger and they are still hungary. I think if you check your statistics , I think it would be well over $175,000,000,000 that has been given to world hungar over the years.

How much money has already been given to help the poor and they are still poor? Check your statistics.

How much money have we thrown at public education over the years to poor areas and all those schools are still underachieving.

We will never end world hunger and it really is not our problem, How many years have people been contributing to help undeveloped countries? How much money does our government send yearly to Middle Eastern countries, African countries etc,, And yet they are still in poverty and underdeveloped countries with nothing. We can send all of the money in the world there and nothing will change. You are mistaken if you think money can fix the problem.

The perfect example for this is when the US government wanted to help the poor people in Appalachia and they bought all of these mountain people new washers and dryers and couches because they saw that their couchs had their legs sawed off and they washed their clothes in lakes. Well when government workers went to see how the money spent helped the people, most of the people had their new unused washers and dryers on their porch, because they had and didn’t want electricity and they sawed the legs off of their couches because that was the way they liked them.

People cannot always look to others for help. Sometimes we all need help but it can not be a permanent position, A person must want to help themselves and they can if they really want to no matter where they are; uless they have dehabilitating disabilities and those are the people that need help, not the poor who are healthy. .

Again Linda….you are missing my point.
The point of my post was not how to end world hunger – the point was clearly about how stupid it is to waste thousands of dollars on a pocketbooks, shoes and couture dresses…..as opposed to the other many options that there are to waste money on.
I’m curious…..if you don’t like what I have to say so much…..why do you read my posts?
Another curiosity….you didn’t feel that the kids in the picture had debilitating disabilities….that were just “poor but healthy”?….

The kids in the picures have parents don’t they? Why are they born when their life is going to lead to starvation? Maybe we need to give birth control to the poor instead of money. These pictures of the starving children never change, they have been shown for hundreds of years. Sometimes there is famin because of bad weather and then people need help that year, but not forever. And this is my point. As far as reading your posts, well I think they are interesting in a silly way. I think you have a good blog, but I don’t agree with many things you say. And as far as people spending money on silly fashion instead of feeding the hungary well that is not a fair question. Donatela did not steal her money, she did not come from a rich family, she made her money and it wasn’t in America, I think. My point is if she can do it so can others and she can spend her money on what she wants to. This emphasis on the hungary that are always hungary is overworked and not the way to approach this problem. They have to be given a shovel, and seeds and taught how to plant and grow their own seeds for future years, and then how to store food etc. They must be taught to fend for themselves and not give birth to starvation.

Curious…..maybe we should give birth control out to everyone in the entire world because they might abuse their children by treating them unfairly compared to their brother and sister and never show them love and make them feel bad about themselves all the way into adulthood.
I am not interested in hearing your comments if you feel my blog is “silly”

It took a while for you to figure it out. :0). Nothing to be mad about or insult me about. It is good to have a little controversey and not have everyone agree with what you say. Peace
