Age Gracefully – not Pathetically

06 Feb

Before I continue to post, I want to make a very clear statement that I have respect for Madonna and all the hard work that she has invested into so many things that have given us pleasure throughout the years.  She is a fantastic performer, intelligent and beautiful as well as a strong and effective peace activist due to her celebrity.  This post is not a bash at Madonna.  I would not dare to do that….but I do want to point out some important things to remember to some of us MILFs out there who think we want to be like her.

Madonna is a household name.  Every one on the planet knows who she is.  Even if you don’t speak English you know the words to “Like a Virgin”.  She has some tough roads to follow – in fact they are her own roads and it can’t be easy trying to appeal to billions of people the same as you did 30 years ago.

With that being said….I want to remind all of us middle aged ladies that we (most likely) don’t have a team of people who work on a different part of our appearance to make us look perfect – every day.  Yes, she did earn it, but what I am saying is something far different than that.  I am saying that the requirement to look 20 years old when you are 53 is probably not always so desirable.  The fact that Madonna CAN NEVER have a bad hair day because it will be everywhere and then some, probably isn’t appreciated when she just wants to be left alone (like all human beings want and NEED sometimes).

I also want to remind all the 40’s and over that if we do mess up, there is no one there to cover it up for us.  We don’t have publicists to hide our very human faux pas when necessary.  We don’t have personal assistants (and many others) to blame if things don’t go right for us.  We got to keep it together and if we don’t than we gotta face the music.  Most of these celebrities – especially Madonna caliber celebrities can erase a few discretions with a just few of their gazillions of dollars.  Yes, she has earned that right, but what I am saying is something far different than that.   I am saying that you may not see all the flaws because they are hidden from public view for the sake of their career.

Yes, Madonna works hard and deserves the fame and fortune and everything that comes with it….but…it comes with a price far more expensive than time at the gym and devoted practice.

Last night Madonna looked gorgeous (as usual) and the performance was $91 million dollars worth of perfection but no one can deny that the her performance was not the same Madonna that we have been used to seeing throughout the years.  Do I care? No – kudos to her for making it work and looking good while doing it…but….I bet she cares.

I bet every bad review and every television show that decides to make fun of her deeply hurts her.  Madonna is not superhuman – despite the fact that we like to think she is.  Madonna, even though I don’t know her personally, most likely has feelings like the rest of us…and…just like we don’t like the feeling of getting old and losing our youth, Madonna probably isn’t so fond of this natural fact of life either.

My point in all of this is that because of the availability of plastic surgery, botox and Photoshop, us middle aged chicks think we can bypass the aging process…..until one day we can’t deny it anymore and we finally realize that no one can fight aging…we can only accept it and highlight the benefits.

We are not Madonna.  We have no reason to need people to believe that we are 30 years younger than we really are.   I am not saying to not take care of ourselves, but taking care of ourselves unnaturally is not healthy for our self esteem.  We are only pushing the inevitable out of our minds and then we go into denial…until it hits us in the face like a ton of bricks.

So ladies, the next time you wish you could get unlimited plastic surgery and botox to help slow down the aging process remember this:

Wow….very nice post here my friend, and you are so right. Dignity is needed to age in peace, accepting that is a natural proccess of life. Well done.

Thanks for understanding what I am trying to say. I was a little nervous that someone would read what I wrote and interpret it as though I was criticizing Madonna. I feel that lately I am seeing so much botox and plastic that women are not even aware of that maybe they would look even better if they tried to go the natural route. On television everything looks better because the makeup artists, cameras and lighting are there to make things look good. In real life, natural is much more beautiful.

Let’s not forget the guys who are falling into the same trap Wayne Newton and Mickey Rourke are perfect examples of Male vanity gone bad. I much prefer the men who are willing to accept that they will not always be a teen pin up.

Very good point…and why in the world would they think they need all that work? Older, distinguished men are far more attractive.

Reblogged this on Just Stuff that interests me and commented:
I have seen the same vanity issue rearing it’s ugly head among male celebrities Micky Rourke, Wayne Newton and Kenny Rodgers? You can keep them. Okay I know there are some celebs out there that keep their leading man looks. Norman Reedus doesn’t look like he’s aged a day in the past decade. Sean Connery has aged but it has just made him more distinguished. Come on Guys, stop trying to look like a 20 something teen pin-up when you are eligibl (or closing in on eligibility) for AARP. It’s not making you attactive, it’s just making you look like something tossed in a dumpster behind the Wax Museum.

I don’t even think these people who do the surgery even realize what they look like. They simply focus on the wrinkles and make sure they aren’t there and if they are back to the needles. I believe it must be some sort of mental disorder. I think the disorder might be called narcissism.
      Peace and thanks for reblogging!
