I found this video today and I don’t know what to think….
What is going on in our country? Both sides have substantial claim as to why this should or shouldn’t have happened. We have no idea based on this video what the girl was doing to cause the cop to taser her…and we don’t know what kind of cop this was. Yeah, tasering a young girl is generally unacceptable, but, let’s be real now….14 year old girls are not like they used to be. What if this little girl was an actual threat? We all know that nowadays anything is possible…..
What kind of world are we leaving our children? What is the answer to these problems? How do we combat the excessive sex and violence everywhere and the complete disregard for others that is taking over like a disease?
What is the solution?

12 years working with a police department and I will say that What I am seeing the the taser being misused. It was not designed to be a method of enforced compliance, but a non-lethal alternative to putting a bullet in someone.
Yes the department I worked at had tasers but officers could not carry one until they had been department trained and certified. Certification included getting tased themselves so they would know what it felt like. Deploying a taser generated a pile of excess paperwork they did not want to get stuck doing.
What there needs to be is more consequences to deploying a taser, including department internal investigations and mandatory suspension until the investigation is complete; just like when the discharge a weapon. The taser may be ‘non-lethal’ but it is still a weapon and should be treated as such.
If an officer’s life is truly threatened if he or she is in true danger then the excess paperwork will not be an issue. If the officer is using the taser as a crutch to avoid making an effort to handle the situation without force they will think twice.

Thanks for the info. I am unaware about the correct procedure as far as police protocol goes – because there seems to be no consequences anymore to overt corruption in the police department. There is a lot of covering up and justification and sometimes a slap on the wrist, but other than that I feel that in order to ensure our perception of police integrity, they have no choice but to justify all misuse of power.
Again, another form of misrepresentation of potential corruption within the system that leaves us, the civilians, highly vulnerable to the loss of personal rights.
